Devices not ‘fit-for-purpose’

In response to their growing success, AmWorld wanted to ensure its systems and business processes were seamless in order to maintain a high level of customer service and support. This included AmWorld reviewing their fleet of mobile devices.

Before reaching out to Conker, AmWorld used a fleet of consumer devices that were each partnered with a bluetooth scanner. However, AmWorld found this solution, used by mobile employees for inventory control and fulfilment to be ‘not fit-for-purpose, and the repercussions detrimental.

The fragile consumer devices were simply not durable enough for such tough working environments – the consequence of which was downtime, and a subsequent decline in productivity and staff morale.

Rather than replacing these fragile consumer devices or paying for continuous repairs, which AmWorld knew would not be cost-efficient in the long-term, they looked for an alternative solution.

AmWorld required a rugged device that could not only replace the consumer device and bluetooth scanner, but one that was also fit-for-purpose.

They needed an Android rugged tablet solution, with data capture capabilities that could withstand the rigours of the road and warehouse; it’s primary job being the control of goods to and from warehouses, and on and off of vehicles. In such industrial environments, knocks and drops are bound to happen, AmWorld needed something robust enough to continue working as hard as their employees do, regardless of a drop.

The Solution

After taking AmWorld through our consultative process; finding out the end-users’ requirements, the environment in which the devices will be used in and what success might look like for the company, Conker was able to recommend a rugged 5” Android tablet with integrated 2D barcode scanning.

The ergonomic, durable device worked well for Amworld – ideal for repetitive tasks, yet small and compact enough to fit in the hand, pocket, or docking station of the mobile worker. It’s IP rating also ensures protection against dust and water, paramount in the warehouse setting, or on the road.

Conker’s SX5 has even been drop tested from 1.2m onto concrete, so if it happens to take a tumble or two, AmWorld’s mobile workforce can remain productive.

Its integrated 2D barcode scanner also helped AmWorld solidify their fleet of devices. The SX5 offered an ‘all-in-one’ solution, with data capture built into the device, as opposed to their previous setup which included a fragile consumer device paired with a Bluetooth scanner.

Conker and AmWorld have worked together for 3 years.

“We have been using Tablet Technologies (Conker) for over two years, for the supply and service of our field devices. We have found them to be very responsive, both for supply and repair. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to any firm wishing a partner firm for their communication needs”
